What is the LimeLight?
The LimeLight is one of the Cutera xeo’s adjustable handpieces. Its non-invasive laser-based system can treat a broad array of skin conditions, like skin redness, telangiectasia, or spots of pigment darker than your normal skin tone. With the incredible flexibility afforded by the LimeLight, we can customize a safe, effective treatment for your skin type.
How does the LimeLight work?
Unlike traditional laser systems that deliver just one wavelength of light, the LimeLight’s broad light spectrum can be adjusted to target many different skin conditions. The LimeLight is optimized to target two of the most important proteins in your body: melanin and hemoglobin. Melanin is what determines skin pigment: the more melanin you have, the darker your skin. Hemoglobin is the primary component of your blood, transporting oxygen all around your body. Depending on the wavelength used, the LimeLight will target either your melanin or hemoglobin to produce desired results.
For sun damage or spots on your skin, the LimeLight targets your melanin. The melanin absorbs the LimeLight’s laser frequencies and the targeted cells darken and rise to the skin’s surface. The targeted skin patch temporarily darkens, and your skin may acquire a bumpy, “coffee-ground” appearance. Within 1-2 weeks, the outer layer of the skin flakes off, revealing a fresh, new patch of skin beneath. For subsurface veins, the LimeLight targets your hemoglobin. When the hemoglobin absorbs the laser light, the blood in your vein coagulates and the vein gradually disintegrates. Your body redirects its blood flow to veins deeper beneath your skin, leaving you with a vein-free appearance.
What is LimeLight treatment like?
The procedure is quick and easy. Most treatments take less than an hour, and 1-3 treatments are usually sufficient. When we move the LimeLight handpiece over your skin, you may feel a mild pinching or stinging sensation, but pain medication is normally not needed. Be aware that the LimeLight cannot treat skin that has been modified with tattoos or permanent makeup. Avoid excess sun exposure or artificial tanning both before and after the treatment, and apply sunscreen multiple times a day on the targeted skin surface. Also, though the LimeLight is not optimized for hair removal, hair reduction may occur as a side effect.
